Reboot

It's been three years since I've actually uploaded anything on this blog. Since 2017 to be exact. Broke out in cold sweat trying to relearn how things work here...

Anyway, 2018 and 2019 passed by just like that with the mundane hum-drum of life - the daily grind with me and the team at the newspaper I was working with joining a bigger group to rev up the education section and increase readership numbers. Something everyone in the industry struggled and is still struggling with.

Then "bam!" 2020 came and you know how that panned out.

With Covid-19 reaching our shores, we experienced the first MCO (movement control order) which started in March where we all had to learn how to WFH (work from home). Funny how we quickly found out work as we used to know it can be done virtually -- from the interviews to lay out to editing -- when before we spent countless hours at the office without fail doing the same thing.

When we finally got to go to work physically in June, we found that a bulk of  us were no longer required to. The place we clocked in for the past one, five, 17, 27, etc years was rightsizing and sacrifices were needed to trim it to the structure it needed to become.

So, fine... in my case, I was lucky to be offered rather quickly a writing post albeit on the "dark side" as many of my fellow newsmen would call it. An exciting new adventure in a tech company filled with young blood and led by AI visionaries. New things to learn every single day for this makcik.

On the home front, 2020 was what was supposed to be my last one involving my son's schooling. Guess what, it's 2021 and he is still waiting to sit for SPM. And he has already hit 18. At this age, his big sis had already bade goodbye to school and was well on her way to "independence" starting with driving lessons. But he will be sitting for the exam soon. So, all the best, baby boy.

2020 just turned the world upside down for most, if  not all of us. It was like life just hit Ctrl Alt Del and threw us on a roller coaster. Strapped up with no idea how the ride will go.

I hope 2021 will be kinder.
